"Chassis Juicer": (DC/DC converter)
Design specs:
- Input Voltage range ...........
60 to 600 Volts
- Output voltage................... 14.5
Volts run / 13.2 Volts float
- Output Amps..................... 20 Amps continuous*
* The Chassis Juicer is sandwichable. The Chassis
Juicer format is aluminum plates that can be bolted together to multiply current capability in increments of
20 Amps. For example: a four-stack Chassis Juicer Sandwich will provide 80 Amps. They may also
be distributed remotely in various places within the vehicle. They do not require any current sharing considerations
even if separated with long leads.
Design features:
- Hot
Juice Standard specs including:
- Waterproof
- Automotive industry standard operating
environment
- Fault tolerant
- Over Volt input protection
- Under
Volt characteristics: output tracks input Volts ÷ 5 when under 60 Volts
- Output
current is regulated to 20 Amps per Chassis Juicer plate
- Short circuit tolerant – no hiccup
mode
- Over temperature protection
- Liquid and/or convection cooled
- Extremely low quiescent current
- Extremely simple installation. Two input terminals to
the traction pack and two isolated output terminals.
- Designed for perpetual operation.
An SLI or "emergency" battery is still recommended in the event of traction battery pack failure.
Development status:
- Working prototype produced
and in testing.
- Inductor design refinement for economical production.
- Design put on hold
October 2007 due to BEQ1 production.
- Design returned to "drawing board"
November 2008.
- Inductor procurement research.
- Prototype
in redesign to incorporate silicone carbide semiconductors
- Control stages
in redesign to eliminate obsolescence prone integrated circuits
